Never made a stamp before. Hm. Anyway, I'm sure those of you that know me at least a little are rolling your eyes and saying "Oh, there goes Val with his dog obscession." Well, bite me, okay?! Wolves are beautiful animals, and yet they had been hunted to the brink of extinction. Humans seem to think they have the right to decide whether or not they're a nuisance and need to be killed off; Most forms of poisons have been banned, as far as I know, but that doesnt stop trapping and hunting by over-zealous livestock farmers. "For the good of livestock" my ass. I'm sorry, I mean I can understand one. I dont LIKE it, no, but you have to protect your job and stay alive, I suppose. But that obviously ISNT all you're doing, otherwise they wouldnt have been hunted to near-extinction. And if it is, maybe consider not herding livestock there, and going somewhere without that kind of predator around in such staggering numbers (which wouldnt be possible after it becomes a threatened species anyway)?
"Oh, I know, lets let my cattle graze under an erupting volcano! Wait, what the hell? My cow is on fire! The nerve of that volcano, what does it think it's doing?! Let's shoot it!" I don't see the thought process there. If you choose to do that kind of thing in that area, you have no right to whine that you have to go and buy more sheep or whatever. They complain about 'surplus killing', but in nature that doesnt happen very often. It's because you penned all of your livestock up in one place, that's not natural. So yeah, you're gonna have more than one dead sheepy. Today I was reading about how it's been legalized in some places for people to gun down the wolf population from a freaking helicoptor. That pissed me off to no end, thus this stamp. Wolves are among the most gorgeous creatures on the face of the planet, and we ought to be doing what we can to preserve them for future generations to endure. I apologize for the angry rant.
Feel free to use the stamp if you wish, in fact I encourage it! Lemme know if you do; I'd love to see how many people support the cause. ^.^
As a disclamer I understand a degree of population control is inevitably neccesary, especially in cases of introduced species. My point was that in those situations where one species survival or convienience is weighed against another, if those kind of actions are taken it should be done so neither species faces extinction.
Yay! Congratulations! I don't know if you're the first or what to say it, but it needs to be said. Wolves are awesome. Please don't kill the wolfies. Great job. You are spreading the news!
Thank you. ^.^ If they weren't liable to eat me I would personally give them all shelter. But see, I don't heard caribou and I would look tasty after a while. It really makes me sick that they'd gun down the puppies from a freaking helicoptor. Bastards. v.v;
GUN DOWN WOLVES FROM A HELICOPTER!?! What the mthrfck is wrong with these people? WOLVES RULE!
I mean, by the gods, that's just horrible!
I love wolves because they're gourgeous and magestic and all, but they're honestly sacred to me! My religion has a wolf goddess!
This is just effing horrible.

Really? Just curious, what religion is that? I can't say I've heard of that, unless it's like, a native american thing. And yeah, I agree, it's quite sick. I was poking around the internet for some sort of (reliable) link to that sort of thing; from what I had read it's mostly in Alaska, some gov't official passing a bill making it legal for population control. Apparently there are too many of the wolves (an introduced species) and they are worried about them overhunting caribou, ect. Or at least that was my understanding. I disregarded the site once it started talking about how people would chase the wolves via helicoptor to exhaustion and excute them close range. I mean, if true that is sad, but it sounded to me like an overly-dramatized demonization of the bill, to get people to sign the petition. I'll continue looking for more info, preferably legal documentation, before I directly oppose anything. If it's true, but on small scale, it's still sad but I can see reasoning at least. If we introduced them to the area, the populations could get kind of out of hand but to that effect, nature takes care of itself; if there arent many caribou, wolves will die naturally of starvation anyway, it's not like there can be a billion wolves and three moose, it doesnt work that way. So my opinion as of now is that it is imperitive to preserve both species. I dont like the idea of helicoptor gunning and think they ought to look into a more humane way, regardless of whether the figures are reasonable or not.
I'm glad you support the cause. *nods* It is indeed sad when animals are hunted to near extinction, though in this case I was reffering to livestock farmers more than the helicoptor thing, since the latter would probably be more influenced by govt (civilians cant own helicoptors) and be more precise. Thank you for the support. ^.^ Wolves truely are magnificent animals.
